Main Street Ottumwa was designated as an Iowa Main Street Program in June of 2006.  As everyone in the community deserves a great downtown, this program is a revitalization effort focusing on the central business district in Ottumwa.  It is a group of individuals working TOGETHER...its me, its you, its Ottumwa!

Make Ottumwa Shine is more than just a slogan... it is a project that everyone in Ottumwa can get involved with. During the week of April 21-26th a coordinated effort will culminate on Sat. the 26th to clean up what winter and neglect has left on Ottumwa. Main Street has taken on part of the downtown area to coordinate the city wide cleanup campaign. We would like to have all the businesses and business owners join with us to “Make the Downtown Shine”. We will be walking the Main Street district picking up trash, cleaning, painting over graffiti and help give the downtown a Spring Cleaning. If you want to join in the fun, The City of Ottumwa will provide, gloves, bags and shirts or vests. In addition, we will be working with the city to help restock the Lord’s Cupboard after a brutal winter. Bring your good attitudes and canned goods along with your desire to “Make Ottumwa Shine.” The Market Street parking lot will be the drop-off point for all the trash. It is also a Free Day for the Landfill. Clean out your garage, cupboards and come help make a difference!
